Attention Rostered Ministers: Gifts of Grace Education Loan Reduction and Retirement Readiness Grants Applications Opening Soon!
Rostered Ministers-
Applications for Education Loan Reduction and Retirement Readiness Grants administered by the Gifts of Grace program will open on August 15 and close October 31, 2025. This is a shorter application period than in previous years, so plan accordingly.
Gifts of Grace grants are given to improve the financial wellbeing of rostered ministers who are serving in our synod. Look over the following grant descriptions and apply if you qualify:
Grant for Educational Loan Reduction: This grant provides up to $3,000 to assist a rostered minister with paying down a loan incurred to obtain their college or seminary degree. Click here to apply.
Retirement Readiness Compensation Equity Grant: Rostered ministers who are paid below guidelines or in a part-time call can apply for this grant to receive an additional contribution of up to $1,400 into their Portico retirement account. The amount is based on the number of steps paid below guidelines. A grant of $500 is available for rostered ministers in a part-time call. Click here to apply.
Retirement Readiness Contribution Challenge Grant: Congregations generally give 10% of a rostered minister’s compensation for retirement saving, yet financial planners recommend 15% or more to adequately prepare for retirement. Gifts of Grace offers this grant to encourage rostered ministers to close this gap and practice investing for retirement. As a special incentive to get rostered ministers started on this practice of putting pretax dollars into their Portico retirement account, Gifts of Grace will give first-time applicants a $900 grant for their first contribution of at least $600 to their Portico retirement plan. Second-time applicants may receive a $600 grant for their contribution of at least $600. Those who have received the grant two or more years can receive a $300 grant for their contribution of at least $600. Click here to apply.
Grant for Medical Expenses: Did a mental or physical medical event cause a spike in your medical costs? Is a chronic medical issue causing struggles? The synod would like to express its support for you through the Gifts of Grace program with a medical expense grant of up to $1,000. Unlike the above three grants which are open for two and half months, applications for this grant are taken year-round. Click here to apply.

THANK YOU!
Thank you to all of you who have made these grants possible!
