The purpose of our compensation guidelines is to provide fair and equitable compensation for rostered leaders serving in our synod. However, these are only guidelines. They cannot possibly speak to all our congregations with their varying financial resources, personnel resources, and expectations.
These guidelines emerge from ongoing review of current salaries, salaries paid in other synods, the Portico overall picture of compensation, and the ongoing work with congregations by synod staff. The 2024 guidelines were developed by the compensation guidelines task force, recommended and approved by the 2024 synod assembly.
As congregations move into the process of planning church budgets or spending plans for the coming year, the Compensation Guidelines Committee provide a Zoom Overview to highlight changes in the 2024 Synod Compensation Guidelines.
Decisions about compensation for rostered leaders and other church staff workers, like other issues the church faces, are best made in light of our core biblical and theological convictions. The links below are resources to help with compensation conversations.
