LYO is bringing back the youth-led praise band to the SW MN Synod!
Beginning October 1, high school musicians (current 9-12 graders) will be able to apply to be part of this group, mentored by Rev. Hans Peterson of Dakota Road. The application process includes a short written application as well as a required audio sample. Applications will be open October 1 through November 30. Final band selections will be announced in December. More information to come!
This group will be the house band for all LYO Gatherings and the ELCA Gathering’s “Synod Day” in New Orleans. All selected students will be required to attend the following:
- Overnight retreat in Spicer (January 19-20)
- Spring Rehearsal (tbd)
- Practice Worship Services (tbd)
- Senior High Gathering (March 7-10)
- ELCA Gathering (July 16-20, registration paid by LYO)

Friday, January 19th- Saturday, January 20th Overnight retreat on January 19-20 at Green Lake Camp to practice and get to know each other as well as the leaders of the Lutheran Youth Organization who help plan the Synod youth events.
Friday, March 8 - Saturday, March 9 The youth band will provide music leadership at the Senior High Youth Gathering in Willmar March 8-9. The hope is to arrive on the afternoon/evening of the Thursday the 7th to practice potentially miss school that Friday.
In addition, the band will lead music when the Lutheran youth from Southwest Minnesota gather for “Synod Day” at the National ELCA Lutheran gathering in July New Orleans in July, 2024. There will likely be a couple one or two other opportunities to practice and bond as a group depending on the availability of the youth participants (in addition to the overnight retreat on January 19-20 at Green Lake Camp).
