$1 Million Grant to Support Continuing Education for Pastors

Gustavus Adolphus College, Southeastern and Southwestern Minnesota Synods have received a $1 million grant from Lilly Endowment Inc. to support the continuing education and leadership development of Evangelical Lutheran Church in America (ELCA) pastors in southern Minnesota. The grant is part of Lilly Endowment’s Thriving in Ministry initiative. The initiative supports a variety of religious organizations across the nation as they help pastors build relationships with experienced clergy who can serve as mentors and guide them through key leadership challenges in congregational ministry. Read the full press release.

In addition to this joint grant the Lilly Endowment Inc. has awarded two more grants of $250,000 to both the Southwestern Minnesota Synod and the New Jersey Synod of the ELCA to sustain the work they have been doing as part of Lilly Endowment Inc.’s National Initiative to Address Economic Challenges Facing Pastoral Leaders. The initiative supports a variety of religious organizations across the nation as they address the financial and economic struggles that can impair the ability of pastors to lead congregations effectively.
