Rediscovering these biblical body images connects us more deeply to our own and to God’s own body\, a connection that can rejuvenate our spirits and our ministry. \n\nRev. Dr. Nathan Swenson-Reinhold\, an ELCA pastor with 17 years of ordained ministry experience\, a Coaching Consultant\, and a Coach Trainer for the ELCA. \n“Finding Holy Power in Powerless Times:\nInsights\, groundings\, and strategies for Christian leaders in challenging times” \nWe have all had the experiences recently of working through social\, political\, and religious situations where nothing we do as Christian leaders seems to move the mission before us forward and where we are criticized on all sides for any decisions we make. But even as the challenges around us ramp up\, and the anxiety of the culture around us boils\, there is a center and posture for our leadership that moves us from hopelessness to hopefulness. Come be inspired and empowered for the holy kingdom work that is before us all! \nBio: Our facilitator this year is Nathan Swenson-Reinhold. An ELCA pastor with 17 years of ordained ministry experience\, he and his family relocated in early July to North Dallas\, Texas\, where his wife has become Preston Meadow Lutheran Church’s Pastor for Group Life. As for Nathan\, he’s stepped into full time coaching and consulting with an emphasis on empowering church leaders and teams who power ministries towards greater hopefulness\, resourcefulness\, generosity\, and strategic effectiveness. \nNathan is a graduate of Trinity Lutheran Seminary\, Columbus\, Ohio\, and holds a doctorate in leadership and cultural architecture from Portland Seminary at George Fox University in Portland\, Oregon. A coach trainer and facilitator of the ELCA\, he holds a Professional Coaching Certification through the International Coaching Federation. At this point in his journey of serving the church\, he has worked with over 147 congregations and church leaders.

SUMMARY:Ethics and Boundaries Training for Ministers
DESCRIPTION:Not-Your-Average Boundaries Training by Leaderwise \nWednesday and Thursday\, November 9 and 10\, 2022\nZoom Meeting\n9:00 a.m. – Noon (each day) \nCost: $50\nPresenters: Leaderwise & Bishop Dee Pederson \nClick here to register \nRegistration Deadline: Nov. 1st \nIt’s our experience that pastors\, church staff\, and other leaders who transgress boundaries by-and-large are not predators. In fact\, not even close. Most people in ministry who violate boundaries are individuals who know and follow the rules most of the time but whose judgment may be impaired due to an unusually stressful time in their lives. With that in mind\, Not-Your-Average Boundaries Training is tailored to focus on strategies to foster mental health\, emotional resiliency\, and well-being. While we still cover the requirements—“Don’t sleep with a parishioner unless you’re married to them” and the like—we believe the best prevention is to encourage clergy to take steps to manage their stress in order to maintain balance and perspective when temptation arises. We further teach a 3-step strategy to help stop them in their tracks before they commit a boundary violation; and participants leave with their own personal prevention plan. \nThis training is lively and interactive\, full of reflection and conversation—and even laughter. Attendees have given us feedback that our boundaries training was a great experience\, AND caused them to re-evaluate some of their own practices. \nSexual misconduct by rostered and other religious leaders is one of the most serious challenges faced by the church today. Violation of the sacred trust between church members and their leaders brings deep pain to all who are affected: victims\, offenders\, family members\, friends\, and the congregation itself. \nIn response to this challenge\, the Southwestern Minnesota Synod bylaws include the following provisions (S14.25.01. and S14.47.01.): \n“Within twelve months of assuming office all rostered ministers of under call shall demonstrate completion of at least six contact hours of continuing education in the prevention of sexual boundary violations.”  \nA few years ago our synod council created a continuing resolution encouraging all of our rostered leaders to have continued work on appropriate boundaries of all kinds\, but especially sexual boundaries\, every three years. \nNOTE: You must be present at all 6 hours of the training to receive credit for completing the program. \nIf these dates don’t work for you\, you may comply by attending another training event that includes at least six contact hours of instruction in the same content covered by the synod’s workshop and provide proof of attendance for your file.

SUMMARY:Junior High Youth Gathering
DESCRIPTION:The LYO Board is incredibly excited to have the gathering materials ready! This is a YOUTH LED event that is planned by the Southwestern Minnesota Synod Lutheran Youth Organization (LYO) Board.\n\nThis year\, there is only ONE option for the JH Gathering: Friday Nov 18th-Saturday Nov 19th 2022. \nBecause this is a year of transition while we seek a new Synod Youth Coordinator\, the LYO Board just gathered for training in mid-September (versus summer in past years). They decided this format is the best way to set-up the student leaders up for success and\, as always\, make this a great event for everybody. Therefore\, the board will offer only one option for the Jr. High Gathering this year. The board fully plans to offer two options again in 2023 (Nov 17-18\, 2023\, and Nov 18-19\, 2023). \nThank you for your understanding and patience. If you or someone you know would love to support youth and family ministry\, please consider applying for the synod Youth Ministry Coordinator position. \n \nWe are eager to partner with the Willmar Conference Center & Best Western Plus/Holiday Inn Express once again to bring you this awesome event! SUMMARY:Rostered Ministers Zoom Gathering – The Vital Role of the Rostered Leader in Inviting Generosity
DESCRIPTION:Money. Stewardship. These topics tend to fall to the bottom of many rostered leaders’ to-do lists. Leaders can easily see them as necessary evils. Yet to quote Henri Nouwen\, “Fundraising is proclaiming what we believe in such a way that we offer other people an opportunity to participate with us in our vision and mission.” Rev. Pete Reuss from GSB Fundraising will begin a practical conversation integrating money and generosity conversations into the mission of the congregation. \nThis gathering is supported by the Gifts of Grace program. The SW MN Synod has a partnership with GSB Fundraising\, Pete Reuss and Paul Marsh to help consult rostered ministers and congregations in stewardship.  \nZoom Link:\nSW MN SYNOD ELCA is inviting you to a scheduled Zoom meeting.\nTopic: Rostered Ministers Gathering – The Vital Role of the Rostered Leader in Inviting Generosity\nTime: Mar 16\, 2023 02:00 PM Central Time (US and Canada) \nJoin Zoom Meeting\nhttps://us02web.zoom.us/j/85605748874 \nMeeting ID: 856 0574 8874 \nOne tap mobile\n+16465588656\,\,85605748874# US (New York)\n+16469313860\,\,85605748874# US

SUMMARY:Stewardship for All Seasons Zoom Conversation
DESCRIPTION:Expanding ministry! \nJust think of the lives your congregation could impact if your members grew their giving by 10%-15% next year! This is exactly the goal of Stewardship for All Seasons (SAS)\, a two-year\, comprehensive process. SAS congregations move embrace an impactful annual appeal and move into other vital realms of a culture of generosity: Communications and Storytelling\, Strategic Planning\, Endowments\, Special Appeals\, Volunteer Recruitment\, and Donor Cultivation \nThe Southwestern Minnesota Synod invites you to a virtual informational session via Zoom to meet Rev. Pete Reuss and Paul March\, the SAS facilitators\, and learn more about the process on Thursday\, March 16th at 6:00. Contact Troy Pflibsen at troy.pflibsen@swmnelca.org to receive the Zoom link\, or with any questions. \nThe SAS process will begin in May. \nStewardship for All Seasons has helped our congregation focus on God’s call on members’ individual lives and God’s call on our life together as church. Stewardship for All Seasons engages members to share their stories of generosity and inspire others. SAS is more than a “program.” It’s a way of viewing stewardship as an essential part of discipleship. SAS focuses on strengths and a vision for the future and answering the “why?” of giving. –Rev. Desirée Uhrich\, Christ Lutheran Church\, Minot

SUMMARY:Zoom Gathering: Stories of Thanksgiving – Energized Congregations are Generous Congregations
DESCRIPTION:A Stewardship Zoom Training for Rostered Ministers led by GSB Fundraising \nWhat if your congregation told stories of the way that the people’s lives are impacted by your ministry? What if the people who generously give of their time and resources to your congregation knew that their giving made a difference? \nRev. This Zoom gathering will be recorded for future use. \nThink back over the past few years and think of all the people in your congregation who selflessly stepped forward to ensure your ministry remained strong. SUMMARY:Zoom Gathering: Telling Stories – Exciting Congregations
DESCRIPTION:A Stewardship Zoom Training for all congregation leaders led by GSB Fundraising \nMost church communications focus on WHAT the congregation does. We talk about the number of people fed at a dinner\, or the number of kids in Sunday School\, or the number of homebound visits the congregations makes. This information is nice but doesn’t tell the whole story. \nWhat if your congregation started telling stories of WHY your congregation matters? These stories of how people’s lives have been impacted and changed by your congregation help people to see God at work among you. \nIt’s the difference between saying that 10 youth went on a service trip and hearing one of them tell how they encountered God’s love in amazing ways on the trip. One is information. The other is inspiration. \nPaul Marsh will lead a practical conversation about how you can identify and tell these stories in your context. This Zoom gathering will be recorded for future use.  \n\nZoom Link:\nTopic: Telling Stories – Exciting Congregations\nTime: Aug 17\, 2023 06:00 PM Central Time (US and Canada) \nClick this link to join the Zoom meeting\nhttps://us02web.zoom.us/j/5076373904 \nMeeting ID: 507 637 3904 \n

SUMMARY:2023 Fall Theological Conference
DESCRIPTION:Location: Holiday Inn & Suites Airport\, 2040 W. Russell St.\, Sioux Falls\, SD.\n\nThe 2023 Fall Theological Conference is planned especially for Pastors\, Deacons\, TEEM Students\, Interns\, Synod Authorized Lay Ministers currently serving a congregation\, and paid staff youth coordinators.\n\n \nIn the liturgy of ordination\, those called to rostered ministry commit\, and ask God’s help\, to preach\, teach\, and nourish God’s people with the word. We receive a stole as a sign of being obedient to Jesus and the responsibility entrusted to us. This call to ministry is one of serving the word. \nThis ministry then involves “serving-up” the word in worship through liturgy\, preaching\, and sacraments\, in teaching\, visitation\, prayer\, and conversation. We are called\, as it were\, to deliver the word to others \nIn the past three years\, however\, the opportunities and means of serving the word have changed significantly. It is in-person. And it is online. It is both/and. And as Lutherans\, we embrace our heritage of “both/and” theology. Saint/sinner. Law/gospel. Free/bound. \nWhen Jason Moore’s presentations on communication\, worship\, and church hospitality started circulating this year\, he caught our attention. We spoke with him to learn more about what he means by both/and. We heard his theological perspective for in-person and online worship\, reasons for continuing both in-the-building and online worship\, ideas for repurposing in-person homework to reach people online\, and thinking about what creates warmth and hospitality for people online and in-person. Wherever you are in this brave new world – longing for your old typewriter & cassette player or producing your own services – this Fall Theological Conference will help all of us think seriously about the “why” for our call to serve the word and share the story of the love of Jesus with ever-expanding circles of people who long to hear good news! \nSo come! Gather with friends you haven’t met yet\, and those who are familiar. Come to Sioux Falls\, October 8-10\, 2023 for the SW MN Synod’s Fall Theological Conference and explore what it means to be people who embrace the “Both/And” of in person and online community\, and what that means for our congregations and us as leaders in the church. Speaker\, Jason Moore of Midnight Oil Productions\, will help us explore the theological and practical implications of in-person and online worship and hospitality. \nLast year we gathered at one of our great camps to the north. Each year\, we’ll change things up a bit! So this year\, we’re going southwest\, and the venue will be the Holiday Inn\, Airport\, Sioux Falls. This hotel is accustomed to welcoming a big crowd\, providing a place where you will be well-tended\, includes nearby a golfing option\, and provides opportunity to explore downtown Sioux Falls.
