With gratitude to God for the ministry of women, and to thank you for your ministry, I invite women Ministers of Word and Sacrament to one of several gatherings over the next five months to mark the 50th anniversary of the ordination of women. In these gatherings we will share conversation, a simple lunch, and engage in holy story-telling. We will rejoice for the gifts and service that women have brought to our church body and our world. We will reflect on and lament about our history of the past 50 years and beyond. We will also talk about the work that still needs to be done to fully receive the gifts of women in our church body and work for equity in ministerial leadership.
We are thrilled to have 115 women pastors on our roster, 77 of them active! Through 2018, we have ordained more women than any other synod in the ELCA. We will be hosting 6 gatherings with 16 participants (max) at a time to allow deeper conversations and engagement.Gatherings will be held in various areas of our synod to reduce drive time and to provide the opportunity for women to share their stories across generations.
A committee of Pr. Joyce Graue, Pr. Dee Pederson, Pr. Angela LaMoore, Pr. Shelly Olson and Pr. Kathryn Skoglund are planning and leading the events.
I look forward to attending these gatherings to thank you for your ministry, listen and learn from you all.
I give thanks to God for all the women who God has called in their baptisms to be ministers. I want to also let you know we will also be gathering women Ministers of Word and Service later this year.
This is an opportunity, not a requirement. Most of all I want you to know I am thankful, and our synod is thankful, for the many contributions and the service of women in our life together in Christ.
