The synod office tries to share non-synod events through our weekly e-news, however lately we have gotten a lot of great information on upcoming events. We hope you enjoy this extra post!Resilience: The Science of Hope – Promoting Positive PL-ACEs
Tuesday, August 14, 2018
St. Cloud River’s Edge Convention Center, St. Cloud, MN
The Second Annual Conference – Resilience: The Science of Hope – Promoting Positive PL-ACEs – can help you begin to see the ways in which faith leaders and faith communities can have a crucial impact on these critical life inhibitors.
Faith leaders and faith communities have the means to collaborate and develop interventions in powerful ways that are unique from any other type of leadership and every other community entity.
In so doing, faith leaders and faith communities can distinctly and effectively promote the health and well-being of individuals and communities in ways only possible through faith.
Please take the time to review the three resources below to gain more insight into the causes and effects of ACEs, and plan to attend the “Developing Trauma-Informed Work in Faith Communities” workshop at the Second Annual Conference – Resilience: The Science of Hope – Promoting Positive PL-ACEs on August 14. Just One. Just One Life Matters.
Sunday, September 9, 6:30-8:00 p.m. Doors open at 6:00 p.m.
Buffalo Lake-Hector-Stewart High School Gym
The Buffalo Lake-Hector-Stewart pastors and ministry leaders have begun a conversation with BLHS Superintendent, David Hansen, regarding depression, mental health, and suicide. Did you know that suicide is the 2nd leading cause of death of persons ages 10-34? We need to talk about this.
We write to invite you to share this information with others, and join us for Just One: Just One Life Matters, a suicide prevention event at the BLHS High School gym in Hector on Sunday, September 9 from 6:30-8pm (doors open at 6). We welcome hip-hop artist Kaboose, we’ll have regional and national suicide prevention resources, we’re offering continuing education credits for educators, and we’ll have counselors and pastors present. We’re welcoming Sam Eaton, founder of Recklessly Alive Ministries, and educator in the Wayzata School District, who shares his story about the day suicide didn’t win. Sam brings a powerful story of hope, sure to remind the audience that they were created on purpose, for a purpose.
Here’s an introduction to Sam’s story: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hRqph0XXPVg&t=61s
Just One events have been held in Wayzata and Elk River, Minnesota. Though the subject matter is a tender topic for some, people who have attended Just One events leave uplifted, educated, and more prepared to continue the conversation about suicide, depression, and mental health. The music is fun, the speaker is engaging, we’ve got door prizes and snacks. Plan for your Confirmation families to come, come with a group from your church, come as a family, encourage your teens to come with their friends. Parents, grandparents, educators and community members will find value in Sam’s story, and will certainly learn warning signs of suicide and depression.
This is an important conversation we need to be having. Let’s have it together.
The event is free and open to the public. Share the event on Facebook or the Eventbrite link (no tickets needed):
This event is for anybody who knows somebody, and that’s everybody. Please share with your congregation, ministerial, conference/diocese and communities—as well as others who may not be on this email list. You’ll find printable postcards and posters attached. Also, feel free to use any of the text in this letter, on the posters or the Facebook Event page for your own bulletins and newsletters. We look forward to seeing you on Sunday, September 9th at 6:30pm.
