The 2011 “Stockholm Snow Day” at Stockholm Lutheran, Cokato once again had excellent snow, fast runs, fun and fellowship, and smiles all around! Along with Stockholm folks, many regular Snow Day friends plus many new friends graced our gathering again. Attendance was excellent–even on such a cold day.
Music streamed out of the bell tower speakers, as greeters welcomed people and guided them to the activities of the event. Taking the edge off the chilly temperatures were a roaring bonfire, hot chocolate & marshmallows, and heaters and tarps at the picnic shelter, making a toasty “pit stop” for any who needed a little extra boost of warmth.
One of the best things about Stockholm’s Snow Day is that you don’t have to walk back to the top of the hill! This year, we had five “4-wheelers” and trailers to whisk people back to the top of the hill. This “doubled the fun” as sledders got in a lot of extra sliding time, and rarely had to wait for a return trip to the top of the hill.
Once again, Lee Titrud treated a steady stream of “customers” to an old-fashioned sleigh ride through Stockholm Woods–a rare treat that you simply don’t see much any more. It was a joy to experience a peaceful ride “over the river and through the woods.”
Later in the day, a meal of barbecue, chips, bars, etc was provided by the busy hands of the “kitchen crew”, with the church Fellowship Hall “busting at the seams” with kids and adults, snow clothes and laughter. Sledders enjoyed this cozy time to warm up and be a part of the fellowship, devotions and discussion.
Finally, adding to the laughter and fun atmosphere, door prizes were awarded for various categories, such as: fastest, most “air” on a jump, greatest rollover, best hospitality, highest energy, most “mature”, youngest, “most relaxed”, etc.
As the day ended and darkness descended, we were thankful to God again for the gift of Stockholm Hill, and for the chance to provide this time of fellowship and fun for our DC community. Many thanks to all who attended and to all the willing hands and hearts who made the 2011 Stockholm Snow Day another fantastic and memorable event!
We look forward to seeing you again at the 2012 Stockholm Snow Day!
